Hi again. Still here. Even getting a smidge more sleep than I was. And I want to wriiiiiite, so I must be feeling better, because for the last year or so I've mostly craved sleep. I'm pretty sure most of my dreams have even centred around my desire for sleep or my lack of sleep. I dreamt about my brother last night though. Not an angsty wish-you-weren't-dead dream either (I've been dreading having one of those). I dreamed we were at a kiosk, buying lunch. We both got sandwiches and then he added a chocolate bar, so I did the set-a-good-example-because-you're-the-big-sister thng and asked for an apple and a banana. Then I desperately asked for a wagon wheel (a bit like a moon pie, I think) because I can't bear to watch someone else eat chocolate and not have some myself.
Anyway, I begged my partner to look after the kids so I could write something. Not an LJ entry. A fic. A weiss Kreuz fic. And I'm stuck before I even type a single word. Out of practice I guess. The ostensible block is that the fic idea came from a story I read in another fandom (SGA). That feels a bit weird and I'm dithering about basically wanting the other writer's permission in advance. My brain does have some ideas about my WIPs, but I need to look back over what I've previously written/rewatch some canon (don't laugh, occasionally canon is relevent in Weiss Kreuz) etc. I don't feel like doing any of that stuff, I just want to WRITE. I want shiny!new!fic, unencumbered, fun, easy.
Anyway, if you are so inclined, please tell me if (outside of remixes etc) you've ever consciously used an idea you got from someone else's story? Even if you haven't, what do you think is the correct etiquette in doing so?
I've always thought crediting and linking back to the original story is the moral/ethical thing to do, and letting the other writer know is courteous. But now that I actually want to use someone else's idea, I find I want them to agree in advance, which begs the question of what to do if they say no. Hmm.

Hi, still here. Occasionally at least. I probably should have posted a hiatus notice a while back. Real life had been whomping so hard for so long I finally decided to let some things go, and keeping up to date with my flist was one of them. I've popped in and out but infrequently, so if I failed to comment on your posts or fic, it's probably because I wasn't around to read.
I'm not yet ready to be back more than sporadically. I said I'd had a 'good night' sleep-wise a few days ago and was asked what that meant. When I thought about it, my baby had woken me at 10.30, 1.00, 3.00. 4.30, 5.30 and 6.15. He's seven months old tomorrow and he's just never slept well. When you add in a toddler who has occasional bad nights, and my inability to sleep well in the final trimester of pregnancy, well, it's been a very long time since I wasn't badly sleep deprived.
The most exciting thing that's happened to me this week was having my brain suddenly flooded with dialogue and sentences. I haven't actually been able to write the story that crystallised but I'm very glad to know my muse is not dead, dead, dead from neglect. I'll keep hoping for a miracle sleep-wise, or for a horde of magical elves to relieve me of laundry, shopping, paper-work etc. Maybe I'll write something before the end of the year??? *chants, croses self, tosses salt, lights candles, sacrifices small imaginary animals*
In the meantime, I've been relaxing by reading McShep fic (Stargate Atalantis), which I've never even watched. If you feel like giving me recs, please go ahead.

This may not be news to many of you but I've been really busy and not on the net as much lately. I stopped by Hope Forlorn this evening and found that yohjideranged had posted a notice on September 7th. In part:
This site will remain up until the end of November - at which time it will be coming down and disappearing from the internet for good. If anyone wants to use any of the information here for their own site, be my guest. And there are other wonderful sites out there besides this one. So, this site is saying it's farewells. Get what you want to download or save between now and then, for after November I will not be hosting it. Hope Forlorn has been the most comprehensive site for Weiss Kreuz around in recent years. It will be sad to see it go. Thanks yohjideranged for all your hard work.

From kinukitty. Because she's a corrupting influence.
1. Leave me a casual comment of no particular significance, like a lyric to your current favorite song, or your favorite kind of sandwich, maybe your favorite game. Any remark, meaningless or not. 2. I will respond by asking you five personal questions so I can get to know you better. 3. Update your LJ with the answers to the questions. 4. Include this explanation and offer to ask someone else in your own post. 5. When others respond with a desultory comment, you will ask them five questions.
( In which I am incredibly long-winded. )

This is what I've done to make my online life less painful and uncertain.
I followed brown_betty's instructions, using method 2 (after downloading and installing LJ-sec) and then I jumped in and used the bold method she outlines (cf the cautious one) to repost all of my LJ entries to both GJ and IJ. It seemed to work with the usual glitches she mentions (no comments copied over, no tags, no icons, some LJ cuts missing etc).
Now I am posting to all three of my journals at once, using semagic.
Semagic download page
I did not work out how to do the multiple posts (I barely have two awake brain cells at the present time) but I have modified the instructions I followed, to hopefully remove the glitch that tripped me up initially. The fix was found in the comments to the original instruction post I've linked to below. Thank you snapetoy for your wonderful smarts.
1/ Log out of Semagic 2/ At the login screen, in the username field type whatever you want to call your LJ/GJ/IJ on semagic. Now put in your LJ/GJ/IJ password into the password field. Don't hit enter or click Login yet! 3/ Tick both the boxes for Remember Password and Auto-Login. 4/ Click the File menu and then Server settings. 5/ Enter the address of the appropriate journal in the server box - www.livejournal.com or www.greatestjournal.com, or www.insanejournal.com. 6/Change the username field in the server settings to your actual LJ/GJ/IJ username. 7/Click OK. 8/ Click Login.
Repeat all steps as many times as needed until you have created an automatic login for all of your journals.
You'll find that at your Login screen, you'll now have multiple login options on a drop-down box.
When you use semagic to post, compose your entry, go to the Journal menu ( upper left of the top toolbar), and then select Post to multiple Journals. A list with ticky boxes will appear and there you have it. The wonders of technology, as worked out by snapetoy. Her original instructions are here:
Snapetoy's instructions on how to use semagic to post to multiple journals
I still have a lot to work out but at least I have all my entries in 3 places and a place to go if LJ gets crazier.

The last thing I wanted to do this weekend was spend a lot of time backing up my LJ at the popular alternative sites, Greatest Journal and Insane Journal. I have no idea where fandom is going to go. I have no idea if fandom is going to go anywhere. But the pervading mood is restless and I can't keep sticking my head in the sand.
Much smarter people than me have worked out great ways to painlessly (relatively) back up your LJ, repost all your entries to the other sites and then post to multiple journals at once. I'm very grtaeful. I've also no time to link to everything I used at present but if anyone needs a pointer in the right direction, I will find the time later tonight.
I used LJ sec to post all my LJ entries to both Greatest Journal and Insane Journal. My username is the same in both places. I'd do JournalFen too but it seems the only way you can get an account there at present is to get a paying user to request one for you.
I am now using Semagic to post to all three journals I have simultaneously. I'm sure there will be glitches but so far it hasn't been too bad.
I'm starting to friend people I can find in the other places. Let me know if your names are different and I'll add you.

I'm stuck in bed for another week. Not so bad with my trusty laptop - until I realised I'd broken the power cord by lying the laptop on its side.
No! No!
My battery is about to run out and then my lovely computer will close down and I will be disconnected!
Hopefully I can persuade my SO that the work laptop will be safe if I borrow it...
Augh, the anguish.

I've seen a few posts on my flist recently about copyright infringement. Viacom suing Google/YouTube, people getting caught out torrenting shows (something that Australians NEVER resort to, since we are always totally up to date with what is showing in the rest of the world...). It reminded me of this story:
A 15 year old boy contacted YouTube, claiming to be a representative of ABC television (the public broadcast network in Australia) and demading that clips of the show 'The Chaser' be removed from YouTube. The site complied.
Funnily enough, the ABC objected because they want to "get [their] content out there on as many platforms as possible, run by as many different operators as possible."
'The Chaser' is a program that satires politics and is known for pulling outrageous pranks. Thier comment was: "I don't think we should prosecute him - we should probably hire him."
Gotta love the ABC.

| Fiction - The Presumption That Once Our Eyes Watered. Weiss Kreuz. |
| Public |
|
This is the Crawford fic that bludgeoned me into writing like a fiend in every spare moment I had two weekends ago. Hopefully there's space for Aya and Yohji to come back now.
My original idea regarding the use of food morphed somewhat in the writing. I certainly never intended there to be quite so much product placement, but I was grateful to my flist for their help with American snack food suggestions, so all the branding is by way of thanks.
The title is taken from a Tom Stoppard quote (Rosenkrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead):
"We cross our bridges when we come to them and burn them behind us, with nothing to show for our progress except a memory of the smell of smoke, and the presumption that once our eyes watered."
Title: The Presumption That Once Our Eyes Watered Author: wedjateye Fandom: Weiss Kreuz Genre: Largely a character study. The slash registers possibly a 0.1 on the Smut Richter Scale Pairing: Schuldig/Crawford Rating: M Word Count: approx 2370 Betaed by: kispexi2 with additional input from kinukitty . Thanks to both of them for tolerating my obsession with this fic. Notes: Contains minor spoilers for Kapitel Episodes 12: Abschied, Why, and 13: Bruch, Rain of Revenge. Summary: Crawford has burnt his bridges.

| Crawford and a weird request |

I'm feeling a bit confused - I'm an OTP kind of person. Very predictable when it comes to my fic writing - Mal and Simon, Aya and Yohji, Hakkai and Gojyo. I stray occasionally but not usually in any major way - my OTP pretty much slips through the cracks in anything I write.
So why, why, why do I have not one, but two Crawford fics running around my brain at present?
*scratches head*
In any case, if you are American, can you help me with something for one of these fics (which may well never be written if I have anything to say about it)?
I need to know a snack food or a soft drink, umm, soda, that would have been available in the late 80s/early 90s in the USA. Preferably something with no redeeming nutritional value, not internationally available and with a distinctive taste. I was thinking maybe Dr Peppers??
